Nano 108 Oh My Quad (Belgian dark ale)

I’m a sucker for Belgian beers and Belgian quads are one of my favorites. These pack a punch, not only in AVB (they typically come in at 10%) but in flavor as well. Nano is one of my go to breweries when I’m on the east side of town and it has a lot to choose from, and usually have a Belgian style on tap. (Thank you, Nano!)

Quads in general are dark and smooth with a taste of caramel, toffee, and figs, if they’re done right. And I have to say, Nano did this one right. It’s got a creamy mouthfeel (I know, that sounds a little kinky, but I stand by the description), and a little bit of coffee-toffee taste. It’s somewhat boozy, which means there’s an alcohol flavor coming out, but not enough to turn me off.

This is a pretty rich beer, which is probably why they serve it in a 10oz glass. I wouldn’t mind having a couple of these in one sitting, but three is right out! This one also comes in a barrel aged version, which is even stronger, so I’ll have to review that at another time. From the taste I had of the barrel version, it definitely has a ‘wood’ taste to it, which makes it slightly bitter, yet more complex—but I’ll reserve an honest review on another trip.

If you’re not a fan of dark Belgian beers, I think you’re missing out, but that’s just me. You can’t drink IPAs every day of your life, so take a break and try a quad, a tripel, or a dubbel--you won’t be disappointed, especially if you try the Oh My Quad at Nano.

About Me

I'm a fan of beer, and so is Vinny (my dog). We love our local breweries and probably spend too much time thinking about their brews. I'm happy to be your unofficial guide to Colorado Springs beer. I hope you enjoy our taproom tales!
