Anna Banana from Mash Mechanix

Did you know that Anna Banana was the ill fated sequel to Hanna Montana? Not many people  know this obscure and somewhat dubious fact. The show was canceled during the first season after Anna continued to show up on set drunk. Apparently, she had a taste for fermented bananas.

Anna Banana Cream Ale is what a banana beer should be, even though I’m not sure what that means. It’s good. It’s really good. There are no off-flavors and no odd bitter aftertaste. It’s just a nice, clean, banana flavor. It’s got some body too; definitely not watery. There’s some haze to it, but I’m guessing that’s from the bananas and vanilla wafers that it’s brewed with (in the mash, I suspect). If you don’t know what ‘the mash’ is, it’s when the grains are sitting in hot water for a period of time prior to the boil—that’s how the fermentable sugars come out of the grains. (It looks like a pot of porridge.) The liquid that is produced from the mash is what eventually becomes beer (I’ll spare the details of the steps in between).

This stuff is smashable, too—which is a beer drinking term for “I can drink a baker’s dozen of these!” That’s a little bit of a lie, though, since smashable also means that you can drink a lot without getting smashed. Anna Banana is over 7% ABV, which means that drinking three of them might make it difficult to pronounce Anna Banana and will have you searching for episodes of her canceled show (Disney made sure to delete all evidence from the internet, so don’t bother).

About Me

I'm a fan of beer, and so is Vinny (my dog). We love our local breweries and probably spend too much time thinking about their brews. I'm happy to be your unofficial guide to Colorado Springs beer. I hope you enjoy our taproom tales!
